New Zealand’s top building apprentice for 2023 Jack Nevines (wearing hi-vis) with his partner Jessica, parents Mike & Sonia, cousin Danielle and Aunty Hazel.
We are beyond proud to announce that Faulkner Construction apprentice Jack Nevines has been awarded the 2023 Registered Master Builder Apprentice of the Year award, in partnership with CARTERS.
Jack was announced as the winner at the National Awards Gala in November, after winning Auckland Region Apprentice of the Year in September.
Faulkner Construction Managing Director Ross Faulkner says Jack, who is completing his training through BCITO (a business division of Te Pūkenga), is well-deserving of the award.
"Jack showcases exemplary dedication and skill. He is committed to his trade and is genuinely passionate about building. We're incredibly proud of his success," said Ross.
Eight carpentry apprentices from across Aotearoa New Zealand made their way to Auckland to compete in the final stages of the competition. Across a two-day event, starting at CONZTRUCT Auckland North, the apprentices were challenged with a six-hour practical skills test and a 45-minute interview with the national judging panel. For the practical component, the apprentices crafted a work bench which will be donated to early learning centres through Evolve Education Group. The project was highly technical, leaving no room for error.
Judges were most impressed by Jack’s natural ability to lead, and the faultless management of his project, which he spoke to during his interview.
“Jack’s extensive knowledge of the building code, methodology, and building products stood out and showed his great interest and understanding of the industry. In the final stages of the competition, his skills all came together to demonstrate his top-class craftsmanship,” said the judging panel.
Ross said Jack's victory was "a testament to the culture of excellence and mentorship at Faulkner Construction."
"We're committed to developing the next generation of builders. The construction industry's future rests in the hands of today's apprentices, and we spare no effort in guiding them toward success. This is just the beginning for Jack, and we can't wait to see what the future holds!"
